Home Shopping Network fails at Wii

By Hans Wuerflein

(Ok, first off, if that doesn’t jump ahead for you, you’ll want to skip up to about 4:45 into the video before it happens.)

Someone at the Home Shopping Network has some explaining to do.  While demoing a Wii that they’re selling at a ridiculous mark up, a host flings one of those plastic, snap-on tennis rackets into the screen of a rather nice looking flat screen TV, cracking it.

Also, you should probably check this out while you can because it’s currently hosted on HSN’s own YouTube channel, so there’s no telling how long it will be up.

Seriously though, this video raises two important issues:

1. That you shouldn’t use those stupid add-ons for the Wii, no matter how cute you think they look, because they’re an accident waiting to happen.

2. HSN screws its customers royally.  Seriously, the MSRP on a Wii is $199.99 now.  This was shot three days ago and they were charging $329.90 for a Wii and 15 of those same cheap plastic accessories.  Even when the Wii was $250 that would be a horrible deal.

  1. Wow… that’s a pretty big FAIL. You’re right about that price – Ridiculous. Those plastic add ons definitely don’t cost $179.90 on their own. Even with the “mark down” to $329.90 would mean those plastic pieces of garbage are $129.90. Funny stuff.

  2. There isn’t a facepalm epic enough that can properly show my disappointment. The only way they can get away with it is because only old people buy stuff off of HSN anymore.

  3. hahaha great find. I just wrote a post about HSN’s Wii bundles, and how frustrating they are. When I was watching HSN the bundle was slightly better than the one on your video, but still way over priced.
